Where these prices come from

CremationClear cites a price source for 128 funeral homes and crematories. On October 8, 2026 those pages were read again (12 could not be read), along with any general price list or package page the same website links to. This page uses the 24 funeral providers whose pages print at least one funeral or burial price, in 7 states: AR, FL, GA, MO, OK, TN, TX.

14 of them print itemized lines from the price list the FTC Funeral Rule requires, such as embalming, use of facilities for viewing or a hearse. The rest print only package prices. Many of the 128 providers are cremation-only businesses whose price lists show no burial items, so the counts for each line are small.

These are homes that choose to publish prices online. They are not a random sample, and the figures are not a state or national average. Prices are shown as printed. Where a home prints several prices for one item, such as viewing rooms of different sizes, the summary uses the lowest weekday price and the table shows the range.

The basic services fee at cremation-only providers

Providers that only offer cremation also print a basic services fee, and it is lower. At the 8 cremation-only providers below it ran from $200 to $535, with a median of $448. Most fold it into their direct cremation price. Affordable Cremations of Central Florida is a Florida direct disposer, so its fee is for a direct disposer and staff.

Your right to an itemized price list

The FTC Funeral Rule, a federal regulation at 16 CFR Part 453, requires every funeral provider to hand a written, itemized General Price List to anyone who asks in person about funeral arrangements or prices. You may keep it.

The list must show a separate price for each item, including transfer of remains, embalming, other preparation of the body, use of facilities and staff for viewing and for the funeral ceremony, and the hearse. That is why the prices on this page can be compared line by line. You can choose only the items you want, but the basic services fee is added to any arrangement.

The rule also bars a provider from saying that state or local law requires embalming when it does not.

The national median from the NFDA

The National Funeral Directors Association's 2023 member General Price List study put the national median cost of a funeral with viewing and burial at $8,300, up from $7,848 two years earlier. NFDA adds up the basic services fee, transfer of remains, embalming and other preparation, a metal casket, use of facilities and staff for viewing and the funeral ceremony, a hearse, a service car or van and a basic printed memorial package.

That figure leaves out the cemetery, the grave marker and cash advance items such as flowers or an obituary. It comes from a mailed survey of NFDA member funeral homes in July 2023.

Common questions

How much does a funeral cost?

On the published price lists on this page, a full funeral package that includes a casket costs $3,595 to $9,815, with a median of $5,910. The NFDA's 2023 national median for a funeral with viewing and burial was $8,300, not counting cemetery costs.

What is the cheapest way to be buried?

Immediate burial, with no viewing or ceremony, is the lowest priced burial on a funeral home price list. The low end of the published prices here runs from $1,795 to $4,489, with a median of $2,390, often with a casket or container you supply.

What is the basic services fee?

It is the funeral home's charge for its staff and overhead, such as arranging the funeral and filing permits, and it is added to every arrangement. It ran from $380 to $2,500 at the funeral homes here and $200 to $535 at cremation-only providers.

How much does embalming cost?

Embalming ran from $425 to $1,100 at the 10 homes on this page that print it, with a median of $800. Federal rules bar a funeral home from saying embalming is required by law when it is not.

How much does a hearse cost?

A hearse or funeral coach ran from $250 to $595 at the 10 homes that print it, with a median of $445.

Can a funeral home refuse to give me a price list?

No. Under the FTC Funeral Rule a funeral provider must give a written General Price List to anyone who asks in person about funeral arrangements or prices, and you may keep it.

Are package prices cheaper than buying items one by one?

Packages bundle items at one price, and several homes here print both. Bill DeBerry Funeral Directors in Denton, Texas prints a $6,440 traditional package that includes a casket, and it also prints each item separately, so you can add up only what you want and compare.
